2 Reasons why Prosper Ogum would immediately rule himself out of the vacant Hearts of Oak job

Former Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum is unlikely to become the next Hearts of Oak despite being unattached at the moment.

Grapevine sources claim the 44-year-old has met Hearts of Oak board member Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe twice as the capital club maintains a high interest in the former WAFA coach.

Hearts mutually terminated the contract of Samuel Boadu and his technical team on Tuesday following a long spell of poor results which saw the former African champions fail to secure a win in the club’s last 8 league games.

Boadu, who led Hearts to 2 FA Cup titles, 1 Ghana Premier League, 1 President’s Cup title, and 1 Super Cup title in 576 days, has become the first managerial casualty of the season.

The Phobians have installed U20 head coach Samuel Nii Noi to act in the role until a substantive appointment is made.

The name on everybody’s lips for the job is Prosper Ogum who resigned from his Kotoko job just weeks before the start of the 2022/23 season.

However, there are two strong factors that would prevent Ogum from taking over the reins as the head coach for the Rainbow club.

Normally, Ogum is the kind of coach who would want to start afresh with the squad and have absolute control over his recruit and players brought on based on his recommendations. A similar situation saw him leave Asante Kotoko as it appeared the transfer policy did not favour the direction he wanted things to go.

Ogum would not want to be judged on materials he did not have any hand in their acquisition.

The other factor which would immediately rule him out of the job is the situation created by Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe. The outspoken board member constantly graded Boadu on the level of Ogum and ended up declaring the former Medeama man as substandard for the job. This made Ogum feel that Tamakloe was deliberating sparking a scene to cause the departure of Boadu to leave the stage for him.

Coincidentally, Ogum also resigned from his Kotoko post unexpectedly, and the two episodes seem to have been deliberately sequenced to make the job available to him.

It is expected that Ogum would turn down any offers from Hearts at this moment to become the new coach for the Phobians.
