2021 AFCON: Ghana FA finally appoints Serbian Mike Stankovic as assistant to Milovan Rajevac

The Ghana Football Association has confirmed the appointment of Serbian trainer Mike Stankovic as an assistant coach to Milovan Rajevac for the 2021 AFCON.

According to the Ghana FA, head coach Rajevac requested additional support following news of Otto Addo’s unavailability who was not released by Borussia Dortmund for the showpiece.

Stankovic worked with Milovan Rajevac as one of his assistant coaches during the 2010 AFCON in Angola where the Black Stars lost out of the ultimate to serial winners Egypt in the final. He was also part of the Ghana continent that played at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He speaks fluent English and Serbian would come in handy in terms of technical communication with the players.

The 65-year-old is a Serbian-American ex-footballer born in Kaludra, Yugoslavia.

He also worked with Milovan Rajevac during his spell as the head coach of Qatar.
