Serial winners Iran have reached the semi-finals of the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup after condemning Vietnam to an 8-1 defeat on Tuesday morning at the Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Hall, Sabah Al Salem, Kuwait.
Captain Hossein Tayebi Bidgoli raked in four goals for Team Melli in a dominant performance that saw Vahid Shamsaei’s side increase their quarter-final goal-tally in the competition to 113 in 12 games.
The 12-time champions will play in the semi-final for the 16th consecutive time.

Iran came into the game having scored 106 quarter-final goals since the introduction of the quarter-finals stage in 2001 which includes a 15-4 triumph over Vietnam in the 2014 edition.
The Team Melli had conceded just 19 goals, keeping 2 clean sheets in those previous 11 editions.
Vietnam’s progress to the quarter-final came via a second-place finish in Group D despite losing the last Group game to Japan’s Samurai Five.
The Iranians started the game with an aggressive high pressing play, forcing all four of Vietnam’s outfield players to a defensive retreat and backing rearguard.
Iran midfielder Alireza Rafiei Pour had a strong poke at goal however, his effort was stopped by Ho Van Y in the Vietnamese post.
After a barrage of Iranian attacks, it was the turn of Vietnam to create their own scoring opportunity, and No. 10 Phat came 1v1 with the Iranian guardian around the 15th minute. Saeid Momeni, the keeper, agilely inflated his body to block the effort which was aimed at his net.
A quick switch led to the opening goal as Hossein Tayebi Bidgoli darted a fierce drive to the top roof corner with Ho Van Y rooted to his spot.
Salar Aghapour scored a blinder from around the center circle with a screaming effort at the 10th-minute mark.
Hossein Tayebi Bidgoli added the 3rd goal moments later from yet another powerful effort. Iranian No.9 Saeid Ahmadabbasi impressively weaved his way through the Vietnam backline around the 9th minute and set up his teammate who fired just wide.
Iran had a direct free kick in the 7th minute which should have seen them increase their tally however Alireza Javan Shahkhali failed to score as goalkeeper Ho Van Y stopped his strike from the 20-meter spot.
Hossein Tayebi Bidgoli scored his hat-trick of the morning as he fired into the empty from the Iranian half.
Five minutes into the second period, Mohammad Hossein Bazyar added the 5th goal for Iran after he connected home a well-delivered cross into the area.
Moslem Olad Ghobad slotted the ball home for the 6th goal for the 6th-ranked nation.
Hossein Tayebi Bidgoli added the 7th goal as he registered his 4th goal of the game through a close-range finish.
Saeid Ahmadabbasi added the 8th goal for Iran before Pham Duc Hoa reduced the deficit for his side.
