Match Report: Nigeria 1-1 Ghana – Thomas Partey’s crucial strike qualifies Black Stars to 2022 FIFA World Cup
Ghana’s Black Stars have secured a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup following a crucial 1-1 drawn game at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Arsenal star Partey stunned the 60,000 home crowd when he fired past Francis Uzoho in the Super Eagles goalpost.
The Black Stars were the first to threaten the Super Eagles’ goal as early as the 3rd minute when Fatawu Issahaku escaped a couple of legs inside the Nigeria area before attempting to locate Kudus Mohammed.
Emmanuel Dennis twisted and swerved Gideon Mensah inside the Ghana box in the 7th minute but his final effort failed to Troost-Ekong who was waiting to wait for the ball.
Thomas Partey struck the opening goal for Ghana at the 10th-minute mark. The Arsenal midfielder received a pass from Jordan Ayew outside the box.
However, Denis Odoi stepped on the leg of Ademola Lookman inside the box in the 19th minute. William Troost-Ekong sent Wollacott the wrong way for the leveller.
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen thought he had outsmarted Djiku and Amartey as he raced past Wollacott to slot the ball into the empty net but VAR reversed the goal after a long wait for a decision from the VAR team signaled the Tunisian referee to disallow the goal.
Jordan Ayew, Issahaku Fatawu, and Baba Iddrisu Mohammed were all withdrawn for Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Andy Yiadom, and KAA Gent midfielder Elisah Owusu.
Despite creating a series of goalscoring chances inside the Ghana box in the second half, the Super Eagles failed to take advantage and ended the goal as losers on the away goal rule.
