Jollof derby: Nigeria likely to face sanctions – Saanie Daara on Moshood Abiola stadium riot

A Former Spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Saanie Daara says Nigeria is likely to face sanctions from CAF over the disturbances that occurred in the aftermath of the Jollof Derby in the Moshood Abiola Stadium.

Following the Black Stars’ qualification to the World Cup in Qatar after sailing past the Super Eagles of Nigeria, angry Nigerian fans stormed the pitch thrashing the place and throwing objects down the tunnel at their team.

Ghanaian players and supporters had to be quickly taken out of the stadium to avoid further attacks.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express Tuesday, Saanie Daara noted that CAF has already demanded that a report on the incident be submitted as soon as possible.

“The match commissioner and the general coordinator for the game have been asked by CAF to provide reports – all of these things have gone viral or global so you’d expect that CAF would ask for a report and I know with what we’ve seen and based on previous experiences, there will be sanctions against Nigeria and the MKO Abiola Stadium for the way things went out of hand,” he said.

Meanwhile, it is being reported that a CAF official has died as a result of the riot.
