Resilient investors key to building robust financial sector – SEC Boss

Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Rev. Daniel Ogbarmey Tetteh is advocating the need for continuous financial literacy programmes by players within the capital and financial services industry as part of efforts to build a strong sector.

This, according to him, will also build resilient investors within the Ghanaian financial landscape who are not prone to predictable reactions in times of economic uncertainties.

Deliverying the keynote at the Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy 2022 organised by the Ghana Stock Exchange, Rev. Ogbarmey Tetteh called on investors to also seek expert advice before taking any investment decisions.

“Even though the financial sector regulators have the responsibility to push the agenda of financial literacy, market operators and the investing public have also have a responsibility access the sources of financial information available to bolster their awareness of issues within the financial sector,” he noted.

Rev. Daniel Ogbarmey Tetteh highlighted the importance of the GSE’s Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy programme to help people understand the dynamics of creating wealth and ensure they attain the resilience that will help you during difficult times.

He called for a sustained approach to achieving knowledge, awareness about the financial market and how it operates.

“Education churned out to the investing public must be simplified, to the extent that the target audience will understand. Let’s simplify the messages because we want the people to respond by patronizing the financial market and doing it from an informed position,” he added.

The 2022 edition of the ‘Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy’ was under the theme “Building Investor Resilience”.
The occasion was used to launch GSE’s Market Watch Portal, a 24/7 portal used to access market information on GSE’s trading activities.

Guest speakers include  Sampson Akligoh, Director of Financial Services Sector of MOF; Michael Mensah, CEO of CSD ; Winston Nelson Jr, President of GSIA and Dr. Godwin Acquaye, CEO of B&FT.
