Black Stars coach C. K. Akonnor congratulates Samuel Boadu on Ghana Premier League success

Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor has congratulated Hearts of Oak and head coach Samuel Boadu for winning the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title.

The Phobians were declared champions of the league title despite drawing 1-1 with relegation-threatened Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Akonnor, who coached Hearts of Oak in 2012 has taken to Twitter to celebrate the success of Hearts of Oak and head coach Samuel Boadu.

The 47-year-old former Wolfsburg and Ghana captain tweeted:

Hearts of Oak won the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title after drawing 1-1 with Liberty Professionals and second-placed Asante Kotoko losing 2-1 to Bechem United on Sunday afternoon.

The Phobians have opened a 4-point lead at the summit of the league table with a game left to wind up the season.

Hearts of Oak, winners of the 2000 CAF Champions League and 2004 CAF Confederation Cup, have won their first major title since 2009 and are still in contention to annex the MTN FA Cup title in a season that could see them clinch double.

Kotoko failed to close down the points gap between themselves and Hearts of Oak who are their sworn rivals after losing 2-1 at the Nana Ansu Gyeabour Park in Bechem to Bechem United.

Hearts have now moved to 61 points with second-placed Kotoko on 57 while there is only one round of games left to end the Premier League season.
