Ghanaian-American singer, songwriter and producer Amaarae who took the alté-pop scene by storm with her debut album The Angel You Don’t Know in 2020, is set to release her sophomore album Fountain Baby on June 9th.
Ahead of the album release, Amaarae has dropped a new single called “Co-Star,” featuring a mix of serene harp melodies and Afrobeat, complemented by her commanding falsetto. The song celebrates star signs and their romantic compatibility, in a witty and flirty way perfect for summer.
The Lauren Dunn-directed music video sees Amaarae playing the role of a judge at a car meet straight out of a PS2-era video game, with appearances from popular personalities like The Clermont Twins, Biba Williams, and Deto Black. Amaarae wanted to create an anthem that celebrates the girls and gives them something cute and flirty, while also leaning into the huge part that astrology plays in youth culture.
The video features some of Amaarae’s favorite women, such as Bijou & Chi, Moyo Briggs, Lois Saunders, and more, who she describes as the tastemakers of our time.
