GPL Week 9 Preview: Legon Cities host Kotoko as Hearts battle Accra Lions

With just one win in their opening eight games in the Ghana Premier League, Legon Cities will hope to increase the pressure on Asante Kotoko, when the two teams meet on matchday 9 of the top-flight.

The Royals have not won a league game since beating RTU 3-2 in their second game and have slipped down to 14th of the league table with just 7 points.

Kotoko, having won their opening four games, are yet to record victory in any of their last three games in the league – they have drawn two and lost one.

Prosper Ogum Narteh will hope a win against Legon Cities will bring the Porcupine Warriors’ season back on track while leaving Maxwell Konadu’s position as head coach of the Accra-based side hanging.

Accra Hearts of Oak will also entertain Accra Lions in an Accra derby fixture that is set to be played at the Cape Coast Stadium due to the unavailability of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Rainbow club won their first league game of the season against Elmina Sharks in midweek and will be looking to keep the winning momentum going.

At the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa, high-flying Aduana Stars will come up against Berekum Chelsea as they seek to extend their lead at the top of the league table.

The Ogya boys are now joint-top leaders alongside King Faisal following a run of five consecutive wins in the league.

Bibiani Gold Stars have a trip to Techiman, where they face Eleven Wonders in a tricky battle while Real Tamale United will engage Elmina Sharks at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

AshantiGold and Accra Great Olympics will go head-to-head in Obuasi with the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park also hosting the game between Karela United and Bechem United.

Tarkwa-based Medeama SC will travel to Sogakope to play struggling WAFA as Dreams FC also lock horns with King Faisal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Despite their win on Wednesday, Hearts are still in the bottom three of the standings alongside Eleven Wonders and WAFA, while Kotoko have dropped to third with King Faisal and Aduana occupying the top spot.
