Chamber of Commerce appeals to govt to address tax concerns in mid-year budget review

The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GNCCI) is appealing to government to use the Mid-Year Budget Review to address some of the concerns raised by the business communities with respect taxation.

The Chamber maintains that although some of the tax policies being implemented by government are IMF conditionalities, reconsideration will bring some relief to businesses which are crippling.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mark Badu Aboagye made these comment at the Graphic Business and Stanbic Bank Breakfast Meeting in Accra under the theme:  “The Current Economic Situation and You”.

“I am making a humble appeal to the managers of the economy that we have a mid-year budget review ahead of us and of course for the first time we are going to have a comprehensive budget review and I expect that the government will put in place measures to bring relief to businesses because we are all suffering,” he said.

He further emphasized that government should not maintain a rigid tax regime to address it revenue shortfalls.

“We cannot tax ourselves out of this problem as a lot of businesses are collapsing and some are relocating to neighboring countries,” he added.
