A number of drivers on Wednesday, May 24, had their vehicles stuck in mud for hours as they struggled to manoeuvre the untarred and rain-soaked Samreboi, Mumuni to Prestea Nkwanta road in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.
Some of the trucks which carried foodstuff and other goods from the Mumuni market and headed for various parts of the region, blocked the already bad road, leaving other vehicles and hundreds of traders stranded.
Angry and virtually at their wits end, some of the stranded drivers appealed to the electorate to ensure that neither the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) nor the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is voted for because of their collective neglect of the plight of rural dwellers.
At a point, three trucks were stuck in the mud at a portion of the road while another fell on its side between the Mumuni and Nyame Dikan route, according to Osofo Kwabena Anane of Velvet Beam Radio.
The Chief of Nyame Dikan, Nana Kwaku Amankrah, called on the government to fix the road.
According to him, the crucial road is in a very deplorable state and cannot aid the free movement of goods and services.
Recent rains have worsened the conditions of the roads and rendered them virtually impassable, threatening the livelihoods of traders, farmers and drivers in the area.
