COPEC worried over fuel shortage at GOIL filling stations

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) is urging GOIL, a prominent oil marketing company, to resolve its supply issues as some customers have been left stranded at their outlets across the country.

Citi Business News has confirmed that this situation has persisted for several days with some stations in the Northern part of the country displaying ‘No fuel’ signs at their premises.

In an interview with Citi Business News, Duncan Amoah, Executive Secretary of COPEC, expressed concern about the situation.

“For some of the outlets that I personally checked, you don’t get the fuel at all, both petrol and diesel”.

Mr Amoah further revealed that checks by his outfit have shown that the challenge is due to “Goil itself not being able to get enough stock of the specific product that they put at their forecourt. It is not that there is not enough stock in the country, other BDCs have products”.

He however remained hopeful that the Oil Marketing Company would rectify the challenge soon.

Similarly, in May last year, there were reports that some filling stations were out of stock.

This followed the Institute for Energy Security’s prediction a few weeks prior of fuel shortages in the country.

Some social media users had also complained about their inability to get fuel at various oil marketing companies, particularly Goil.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) however responded indicating that the country had adequate supplies for at least three weeks; however, more supply of fuel was expected in the country subsequently.
