CJ advocates for comprehensive framework to promote sustainable blue economy

Chief Justice, Getrude Torkonoo is advocating for Ghana to establish a comprehensive legal, regulatory, and institutional framework that promotes the responsible utilization of the blue economy.

Emphasizing the significance of adapting to global economic changes, she highlighted the importance of implementing measures to harness the potential of the marine environment for sustainable development.

She made these remarks at the 14th Maritime Law Seminar for Superior Court judges of Ghana, organized by the Ghana Shippers Authority.

“The blue economy is a subject that is gaining global prominence and requires our attention here in Ghana. The blue economy refers to the exploitation of the marine environment for sustainable development,” she explained.

On her part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Benonita Bismark also noted that the dynamic nature of the shipping and logistics sector calls for regular training of judges for efficient adjudication.

“New things are coming with new development. We need to talk about the blue economy and green shipping. We cannot just sit and think things remain static. No, there’s dynamic in the marine business. So as they develop, what do we bring to the table for the Justices because at the end of the day it’s business,” she mentioned.
