PRO for Charterhouse, Mr Robert Klah, has admonished Ghanaian musicians to clearly pinpoint all producers that worked on their projects anytime they are filing for nominations to avoid any misunderstanding.
This comes up after a brouhaha emanated from Afriyie’s nomination in the ‘Audio Engineer of the Year’ category, for his work on his “Country Hot” song in this year’s VGMA in which he failed to inform the Board on the actual sound engineer of the song, thereby claiming the song to be his own production.
Record producer, Wei Ye Oteng, called the VGMA Board out on Facebook, for nominating Afriyie in the ‘Audio Engineer of the Year’ category, instead of Appietus, the main sound engineer of the song ‘Country Hot’.
For this reason, Oteng feels the works of music producers have been taken for granted in Ghana.
“How do you put Afriyie Wutah here as an audio engineer? Ahhh ayefo papa. You see why this craft will always be taken for granted? Come on let’s give some respect to engineers. We work hard to achieve the greatness the masses enjoy, it’s not an overnight magic. I’m pissed. I don’t care what your category definition is and I don’t want to know, but chaley, let’s be serious as an industry,” his Facebook post read.
On the heels of this, Robert Klah said Ghanaian artistes should do well to credit all their producers anytime they are filing for nominations since there is a space for all that on the forms.
“When you check the categories, when it comes to producer it is producer or producers, when it is audio engineer it is audio engineer or engineers and even songwriter we have songwriter or songwriters which means that it is already acknowledged that sometimes it is not only one person. So if it is more than one person just put the name there the information will be taken and used,” he told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz.
He also made it known that Afriyie stands a chance of being disqualified from the category, should the investigation go against him.
The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is set to come off on the 6th and 7th of May 2021 respectively at the Grand Arena.
