Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu speaks on Black Stars situation [Asempa FM SportsNite]

Retired Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has responded to suggestions that he must be considered for a place in the Black Stars squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 31-year-old Seikwa-born has returned to the Ghana Premier League after signing with Great Olympics and he has already guided the Wonder Club to win their first trophy.

Following his early success with the Dade Boys calls, there have been suggestions for him to be considered for a place in Otto Addo’s squad for the Mundial in Qatar later in November.

Journalist Enoch Worlanyo asked him on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show whether he still has his eyes on international football despite retiring from the national team.

The former Udinese captain quickly reacted by insisting that he still stands by his letter of retirement from the Black Stars.

“I respect the letter I brought out,” he said. “In my letter, I stated how beneficial Ghana has been to me since I started donning the national colours. I also did my best. But, now I want to concentrate on club football,” he added.

In December 2020, Badu called it a quit from international football after playing 78 times and scoring 11 goals for the West African powerhouse.

His goal against Guinea during the 2012 AFCON was nominated for the FIFA Puskas Goal of the Year Award in 2012.
