Fam Heart, 2 others begin incubation at Node Eight

Farm Heart, an Agri-tech startup set out to create a platform to connect farmers and their potential customers for the bulk sales of their harvest to reduce post-harvest loss and two other startups have been selected  to undergo business incubation at Node Eight after winning the Ho Startup Summit  keenly contested pitching event in Ho.

These three startups qualified for an incubation program with business and technical support for ten weeks to build Minimum Viable Products that meet customer needs in Ghana.

Six startups pitched various innovative ideas to solve diverse problems in the fields of health care, agriculture, and service delivery in Ghana.

DAB, A three-member team delving into the Agri-tech space with the startup idea Farm Heart came up tops.

Farm Heart is an eCommerce platform to put farmers on the same platform as their potential buyers or customers. Creating a wider market for their farm produce and so reduce post-harvest loss.

Also, an all-female team, Amigos pitched the startup idea Ozi. Ozi is a mobile application aimed at doing grocery shopping for busy individuals and delivering same to the comfort of their homes. Meeting up with the current time demands and making life easier for the Ghanaian populace.

Team Rebels with the health-tech idea Plus Health were the second runner ups. Plus Health is an online platform for the aged and busy people to schedule and track their medications, and hospital appointments. Also, with the use of their locations find the nearest pharmacies to them.

The Ho Startup Summit was organized by Node Eight in partnership with Ghana Tech Lab, under the Pathways to Sustainable Employment Program of the Mastercard Foundation on the theme, “The Role of eCommerce in Transforming the Local Economy for Job Creation and Economic Development.” The program is aimed at creating a platform and opportunity for the youth to explore innovative ideas to solve Ghana’s problems using technology.

Dr. Daniel Agbeko, Head of the TVET Unit of the Ho Technical University, who was guest speaker for the event reiterated the opportunities surrounding young people and the need to take advantage by creating solutions for these problems.

These solutions will build sustainable businesses using technology and will promote the digitization of the local economy for sustainable growth of Ho.
