Ghana FA ExCo member reveals how he escaped jail sentence
Ghana FA Executive Council member Randy Abbey has confirmed that he underwent a mini-trial in an Accra High Court over issues of contempt of court in the case involving AshantiGold Sporting Club and the Ghana Football Association.
The legal representatives of the Miners dragged the Executive Council members together with its General Secretary and communications team member to the high court for disobeying the orders of the court.
Subsequently, Abbey was acquitted and discharged together with members of the council, however, the General Secretary and the communications team member were found guilty and sentenced by the court.
Explaining the issue, Abbey said he was taken through a mini-trial in an Accra court where he had to answer questions relative to claims that the GFA was served court papers through him at the premises of the GFA.
“There was a mini-trial, | was put in the dock and cross-examined over the punishment meted out to AshGold over match-fixing claims that they served the FA through me at the FA’s premises and all that.
“So, we have been going to court, there was a mini-trial, and | was put in the dock,” Randy stressed on the May 5 edition of the Good Morning Ghana show he hosts on Metro TV.
The substantive case of match-fixing between the club and the GFA is still pending before the court for hearing.
