Ghana Link signs MoU with CUPIA to improve transactions at ports
As part of efforts to boost revenue generation and security at the ports in Ghana and neighboring countries, Ghana Link Network Services Limited, the technical operator of the Integrated Customs Management Systems (ICUMS) at the nation’s ports has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Customs UniPass Agency of Korea (CUPIA).
During the signing ceremony, both parties committed to close cooperation which will develop countries on the African continent.
Speaking on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the Director of Operations at Ghana Link, Raymond Amaglo says ICUMS has improved business activities at the ports despite the current economic crisis.
“With the introduction of ICUMS, the clearing of goods at the ports has seen rapid improvement with respect to time.”
“If you take advantage of our pre-manifest declaration in clearance options what it enables you to do is to make application to customs with your invoice and other relevant documents ahead of the arrival of the vessel.
“Once you have done this, you are even able to pay your duties. And the good thing is that when the duty is calculated, you get a notification at your front end .You either accept it or reject it.”
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ghana Link Network Services Limited, Nick Danso Adjei expressed gratitude to key stakeholders for their commitment in ensuring the efficient delivery of service to traders at the ports. He disclosed that ICUMS is expanding its operation by moving to Gambia to help facilitate their port activities.
The Chairman of Customs UniPass Agency of Korea (CUPIA), Kim Yoon-Shik said the MoU will contribute to the development of the African Continent: “Today, taking foundation from this successful cooperation, we would like to take strong steps together towards a new future.”
“Through close cooperation between the two organizations, we hope to contribute to the development of countries in Africa, by supporting the modernization of their customs administration. In addition, CUPIA would like to work with Ghana Link to find ways to contribute to the better livelihood of the people of Ghana”
Following the signing of the MoU, the two parties paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner General of Ghana Revenue Authority, Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah who stated that: the introduction of ICUMS at the nation’s ports has improved operations as far as the port is concern. It has increased efficiency and compliance.
He also added the with the introduction of the new model of the systems revenue generation during the E-auction raked in 30% above the reserved price.
