Ghana Premier League: Nothing has changed in AshantiGold vs Kotoko fixture in Obuasi

No official notice has been sent to AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko regarding their Ghana Premier League on Thursday, contrary to reports claiming the game has been postponed indefinitely.

Widely circulated reports in the local media on Tuesday claimed the fixture had been postponed indefinitely by the Ghana FA.

The claims went further to state the security situation in Obuasi (base of AshantiGold) following the demotion of the club to Division Two League for their involvement in the match-fixing scandal with Inter Allies.

The Ghana FA hasn’t released a statement regarding the claims on their official website. But, rather have named match officials for the game which is scheduled for Thursday at the Len Clay Stadium.

Referee Emmanuel Tampuri has been named for the fixture along with assistants Eric Ndebugri and Isaac Nyamekye with Gabriel Opoku Arhin being the 4th referee.

A statement published on WhatsApp platforms and attributed to AshantiGold states: “No official notice has been received from the GFA on this. The police, however, indicated they have such intentions and as a result communicated with the FA. The FA hasn’t taken any decision on that yet. It still remains a proposal.”

The Ghana FA has demoted the Miners to the third-tier of Ghana football after the Disciplinary Committee ruled in the matter involving themselves and Inter Allies in a match-fixing scandal.
