Poor road markings expose motorists to accidents – Road consultant

There is raging public concern about the lack of markings on the major roads across the country exposing motorists and pedestrians to accidents.

Land markings aid in visibility at night and highlight maneuvers allowed at some segments of the roads.

But the absence of these markings, according to some drivers, is contributing to the accidents on the roads a challenge that needs urgent attention.

Road consultant and engineer, Abdulai Mahama called on authorities to immediately ensure the challenge is addressed.

“The government should concentrate on those ones and get the line-markings properly done because the line markings will tell you that you are in an area where you cannot do an overtaking due to dangers ahead of the drivers,” he said.

He stated that to help reduce the road carnages in the evening on the highways, “whenever we see that the line markings are fading off, we have to just stand by and get constructors to continuously work on it.”

“The road markings is a direct communication to the driver, especially in the evening .. if your light is functioning properly, it can give you about 30,50 meters of head up and you don’t get these things there it makes the driving to be so slow. It poses a lot of danger to motorists and pedestrians,” he added.

Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority, David-Sarfo Adonteng, says his organization will continue to push for state institutions mandated to carry out such works to ramp up their efforts to reduce road accidents.

“When we talk about roads then it is all hands on deck,” he added.
