Ghana vs Uruguay – 2022 FIFA World Cup: This is how Uruguay performs anytime La Celeste play against South Korea at the World Cup

Uruguay‘s La Celeste have always advanced to the next stage of the FIFA World Cup anytime they have played against South Korea in the tournament.

The South Americans face Ghana’s Black Stars on Friday afternoon in a duel most Africans and the world at large would be looking forward to.

Diego Alonso’s side has played twice against the East Asians in two previous editions of the World Cup – 1990 and 2010.

Uruguay, who are two-time winners of the World Cup – 1930 and 1950, defeated South Korea 1-0 on matchday 3 of the 1990 World Cup at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy. That vital win helped Uruguay to progress from Group E alongside Spain and Belgium.

After advancing to the Round of 16, hosts Italy defeated them 2-0.

The other event when South Korea came into the path of Uruguay was at the 2010 edition in South Africa. Luis Suarez scored both goals as La Celeste recorded a 2-1 win over the Koreans at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

After beating South Korea, Uruguay’s next game was the memorable penalty shootout victory over Ghana after Luis Suarez had iconically used his hands to stop a goal-bound effort from Ghana.

Uruguay drew 0-0 with Korea in the Group H clash at the 2022 edition and would now face old foes Ghana on Friday afternoon.
