Ghanaians welcome merger of SSNIT and Ghana Card numbers [Video]

As the integration of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and Ghana Card numbers begin, Ghanaians have welcomed the exercise and its attendant benefits.

The merger process began on Monday, June 28, 2021, and is expected to provide a convenient means to transact business using one integrated card.

This is expected to improve the ease of doing business with the Trust.

The merger is in compliance with Regulation 7(1) of the National Identity Register Regulations, 2012, L.I. 2111.

All this forms part of the government’s agenda to make the Ghana Card the sole source of identification for persons living in Ghana and for accessing public services in the country.

SSNIT contributors, who have not registered yet, to merge their numbers, will have from now till December 2021 to do so.

On the other hand, for new users, SSNIT will only accept the Ghana Card as the unique identification for processing benefits and contributions.

Just by dialling the short code *711*9#, SSNIT members can begin the process to merge their numbers.

But what do Ghanaians think about this move? Ellen Dapaah visited the Ministries enclaves and reports.
