Government urges calm in Kenyase after a violent clash between youth and police

Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural resources, George Mireku Duker has urged agitated youth of Kenyase to remain calm.

His appeal comes on the heels of a clash between the youth and Police duty officers with Newmont Mines which claimed one life and injured four others.

The Minister has been visiting victims of the clash and assuring them of government’s resolve to maintain peace, and to find those culpable.

Last Tuesday, there was a bloody clash between the youth of Kenyase Number 2 and some police personnel.

Several sources disclosed to Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor that the personnel from the Formed Police Unit and Counter-Terrorism Unit stationed with the Newmont Company had an altercation with a motor rider during which one person was gunned down.

His death sparked a revolt by the youth, leading to four more people being shot. The youth then besieged a bridge between Kenyase No.2 and Ntotroso road in protest.
