Hearts of Oak reach MTN FA Cup final after edging Dreams FC in a 5-goal thriller

Giants Hearts of Oak have reached the final of the 2021/22 MTN FA Cup after squeezing a slender victory over Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ex-Liberty Professionals forward Kwame Karikari scored a 78th minute goal for the Believers as Ignatius Fosu’s men attempted a late fightback.

But, an experienced Phobians’ side composed of Gladson Awako, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Salifu Ibrahim hung on for victory.

Young striker Benjamin York sparked Hearts’ victory when he ghosted into the area to poke home a second goal from a Daniel Afriyie effort around the 12th minute mark.

His effort however, was the goal that cancelled out Sylvester Simba’s 4th minute effort.

After the leveller, the Rainbow club dominated the exchanges and should have scored before the interval.

Dreams’ resilience was broken immediately after the break as Afriyie rattled the twine with a ferocious effort from around the area.

In-form young striker Suraj Seidu grabbed the comfort goal for Samuel Boadu’s boys before Karikari pulled a goal back again.

Hearts, who won the 2020/21 edition, are the most successful club in the competition and await the result of the other semi-final game between Aduana Stars and Bechem United.
