I got educated in Ghana through my husband – Maria Vanderpuye

Author, Maria Vanderpuye has revealed circumstances under which she got educated after she was pressured to move to Ghana at age 16.

In a conversation on Prime Morning, she revealed that she never had the opportunity to be well educated since she had to drop out of basic school to marry.

She also disclosed how her husband, Seth Oswald Nii Armah Vanderpuye, contributed heavily to her educational career.

“I only had primary school and two-year vocational school, that’s all. I’m not well educated, but I got educated in Ghana through my husband,” she narrated.

The Dutch, who struggled with the English language, has been a teacher and is now more conversant with the language.

She felt uncomfortable upon arrival in Ghana, but became happier after experiencing a warm welcome from the family of her betrothed husband.

According to her, there has never been love in her country, Holland, but upon arriving in Ghana, she was overwhelmed with the love shown to her.

As her parents’ only child, she has never understood why she was forced to marry at such a young age. Her father could not stop her mother, even though he loved her.

Maria Vanderpuye has written another book titled “The Valley of Memories,” telling memories since her relocation to Ghana in the early 1960s.
