‘I want to play as many games as I can this season in Ligue 1’ – Gideon Mensah

Gideon Mensah says his target for the 2022/23 season is to enjoy enough playing time as possible to make up for the limited opportunities he got at Bordeaux.

The left-back was restricted to just 13 starts last season during his loan spell, despite making 23 appearances.

After returning to his RB Salzburg, the 23-year-old opted to leave the Austrian club on a permanent basis after several loan spells, with game time ahead of the World Cup his priority.

Speaking to Joy Sports’ Lawrence Baidoo, the Black Stars defender, revealed the goal he has set for himself before the end of the season.

“Obviously I have goals and I have targets. In Ligue 1, you need to play 30 games to be an official player. So since that didn’t happen with Bordeaux, I want to do it now,” he noted.

“I want to play as many of the games as I can to make myself an official Ligue 1 player and also get more assists and good games, get playing.”

After making his debut in midweek, Mensah is expected to be in the squad again when Auxerre play Olympique Marseille over the weekend.
