Match Report: Hearts of Oak 0-0 Legon Cities – Wasteful Phobians held by Royals in Accra

Hearts of Oak were held to a 0-0 draw by Legon Cities in matchday 1 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was a game in which the Phobians created a number of scoring opportunities but Kofi Kordzi, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, and Isaac Mensah all failed to convert their chances in both the first and second halves.

On the side of Cities, attacker Jonah Attuquaye failed to prove his mettle twice in the first half when he was played through by his teammates – Richard Attah pulled a fine stop midway through the first half before the former Berekum Chelsea forward fluffed his lines when he was played through by Michel Otou.

Meanwhile, Hearts came close about four occasions in the first stanza where they could have snatched the lead but a combination of great reflexes from Eric Ofori Antwi and some poor finishing from their attack contributed to their failure to score goals.

Congolese defender Raddy Ovouka missed the game with an injury while Caleb Amankwah was also not in the squad for the game.

The Phobians’ failure to understand the mode of application for the five substitutions affected their changes as referees failed to allow them to effect the changes they wanted.
