Kotoko fans bundle journalist out of Len Clay Stadium after saying penalty awarded against Karela Utd was a wrong call by the referee
A yet-to-be identified broadcast journalist was hauled out of the Len Clay Stadium by Asante Kotoko fans in Obuasi after he announced in his commentary that the referee awarded a bad penalty to the Porcupine Warriors.
The game was tie 1-1 after 71 minutes after Kotoko profited from a penalty awarded by referee Jacob Aduntera after Evans Adomako appeared to have been fouled by Karela United goalkeeper Richard Baidoo.
Emmanuel Gyamfi scored the opening goal for Kotoko but striker Richard Berko levelled things for Karela around the hour mark. But, Kotoko were awarded a penalty when Richard Baidoo was adjudged to have fell striker Evans Adomako inside the box.
The penalty generated heated controversy as replays show the goalkeeper got a touch of the ball before making contact with the player.
Brazilian midfielder Fabio Gama elected himself and beautifully converted from the spot to restore the lead for Mariano Barreto’s side.
The journalist found himself at the wrong side of the Kotoko fans after he pronounced that referee Aduntera made a wrong call from the incident as replays show the goalkeeper got a touch of the ball before making contact with the Kotoko attacker.
Pictures which have surfaced online show two fans carrying the journalist out of the stadium after he reportedly commented that the situation wasn’t a penalty. His comments didn’t sit well with the fans of the home side who have staged a last-gasp battle with Hearts of Oak for the Ghana Premier League title.
The situation has raised questions about the security for journalists at various league centers as mostly fans gain access to the media stands.
