As Ghana face Nigeria in the quest for a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Ghana Sports Online takes a look at the time the Black Stars faced Nigeria with an entirely local-based squad.
It can be recalled that in March 2001, Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio snubbed all foreign-based players to use an entirely home-based squad to play against Nigeria in Accra.
Attuquayefio called up FIVE players from Kotoko, two each from Liberty Professionals and AshantiGold and one from Ebusua Dwarfs for the game.
The Black Stars held a star-studded Nigeria side to a 0-0 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 10, 2001.
These are the players paraded by Ghana for the game.
Sammy Adjei – Amankwah Mireku, Jacob Nettey, Lawrence Adja Tetteh, Agyemang Duah, Joe Ansah, Charles Allotey, Ishmael Addo, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour, Charles Taylor.
