Outspoken Ghanaian trainer Ignatius Osei Fosu says AshantiGold must resolve their lateral defensive problems if they are to overcome Hearts of Oak in Sunday’s MTN FA Cup finals.
AshantiGold finished the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League as the highest scoring side but Thomas Duah’s side also conceded 36 goals, a problem that arises, according to Fosu, from the Obuasi’s inability to solve their lateral defensive problems.
Hearts scored just five goals less than the Miners but the Phobians also conceded few goals.
Fosu, head coach of Eleven Wonders, believes AshantiGold must solve their problems at lateral defence which is according to him their biggest problem.
“AshantiGold’s biggest problem is how they will shape their full backs. Because Ampem Dacosta is not a right-back. If you’re playing a full back like Kwadwo Amoako you don’t have a problem. Their full back is their biggest problem,” he told Bright Kankam Boadu on Kumasi-based Pure FM.
AshantiGold are hoping to repeat their 1-0 Ghana Premier League winning performance over Hearts of Oak when the two sides clashed at the Len Clay Stadium in the second round of the league. In the first round fixture staged at the Accra Sports Stadium the two sides scored two goals apiece in a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile in the same interview Fosu picked Miners midfielder Stephen Owusu Banahene as the best holding midfielder in Ghana. The 26-year-old played just 11 times out of available 34 games for AshantiGold in the Ghana Premier League season.
Meanwhile Hearts of Oak are chasing their sixth Ghanaian double.
