Hearts of Oak have advanced to the quarter-finals of the MTN FA Cup after beating Elmina Sharks on penalties at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Phobians claimed victory in a dramatic marathon shootout that travelled for close to 15 minutes with each team recording at least four misses in the spell.
Samuel Boadu’s side scored first when Sulley Muntari delivered a corner kick for Isaac Mensah to head past the Sharks goalkeeper in the 32nd minute. The goal was a replica of the Ghana Premier League goal against Legon Cities at the El Wak Sports Stadium last month.
Sharks nearly pulled parity just before the interval when Samuel Arthur struck the woodwork with a bicycle kick from inside the Hearts area.
Ishmael Antwi levelled things up for Sharks moments after the break as he tapped in from an unmarked position inside the area.
Sharks took the lead when Richmond Ayi conceded from an innocuous effort from Ishmael Antwi who registered his second goal of the night.
Substitute Patrick Razak won a penalty for Hearts which was converted by Kofi Kordzi to send the game into penalties.
Kofi Kordzi, Samuel Arthur, Robert Addo, Prince Kpodo, and Ishmael Antwi all missed their kicks in the run to the Phobians’ victory.
