Black Stars: FIFA grants nationality switch to Leicester City star Ademola Lookman to play for Nigeria

FIFA has approved Ademola Lookman’s nationality switch from England to Nigeria ahead of the crucial 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier between the Black Stars and the Super Eagles.

The 24-year-old won gold with England’s U20 side in 2017 during the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup.

Lookman is currently on loan at Leicester City in the English Premier League from the German side RB Leipzig.

The London native, who was born to Nigerian parents and grew up in Peckham but has not played for England’s senior team which made it easy for the switch of nationality to happen.

Lookman follows in Everton winger Alex Iwobi’s footsteps in representing England at the youth level before going on to represent Nigeria at the senior level. William Paul Troost-Ekong, Maduka Emilio Okoye, Leon Balogun, Calvin Bassey, and Michael Olise are all players who were born abroad but switched to feature for the Nigerian national team.
