Each player of Tamale City was paid GHS40, less than $4, as a winning bonus for beating giants Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League, according to Kumasi-based Pure FM.
The Blue and Yellows, coached by former Ghana U20 skipper Hamza Mohammed, obliterated and extinguished any Hearts of Oak dream of winning the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League title by dismantling the Phobians 4-1 in a matchday 28 fixture.
The victory was City’s 8th win of the season out of 28 attempts while spelling Hearts of Oak’s 8th loss of the season and applying strong brakes on their pursuit of the league title.
According to Christian Adusei on the Pure FM Sports Show, each player of the new entrants received GHS40 for beating the Phobians.
Recently, news broke out that the bankroller of the Phobians, Togbe Afede XIV, had increased the winning bonus of the Rainbow club by 100 % as he sought to motivate them to win the Ghana Premier League title and make a return to continental football.
Samson Eduku, a former CI Kamsar striker, scored twice against Hearts of Oak in the clash in Tamale.
