Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer Simi, has come a long way in the half-decade since “Jamb Question” initially caught the public’s attention.
Simisola’s 2017 album mixed pop bombast with technical prowess, 2019’s Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. 1 was a moving reflection on her life’s changing terrain, and experimental albums like 2020’s RESTLESS II polished her creative credentials.
She contemplates love, appreciation, and betrayal with a compilation of edgy songs that traverse the range of emotions on Tbh (To Be Honest), a body of work that took three years to complete.
“My ultimate goal is not just for the album to be loved,” Simi tells Apple Music. “It’s to create a project that makes me happy and that I want people to hear. I’m happy to be able to express myself exactly the way that I want.”
Simi embraces vivid expressionism on this album, cheerfully calling out detractors (“No Joy”), reliving her roots (“Story Story”), and exploring the meaning of life alongside her spouse Adekunle Gold (“Balance”).
