Institute measures to stop mass gatherings in schools – Dr Boamah to GES

A former Communications Minister under the Mahama administration has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to institute measures to stop mass gatherings in schools as students prepare to resume.

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, observed that some schools before vacation conducted morning assemblies amidst the surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Describing the situation as totally wrong, Dr Boamah charged the Service to “move in swiftly to stop any mass gatherings in schools.”

Dr Boamah, a Health Policy Planning and Financing expert and a medical practitioner, urged parents to remind their wards about the dangers Covid-19 poses frequently.

He indicated that safety protocols should be upheld in all schools to ensure that students are safe.

“Last but not least, both teachers and children must serve as checks on each other and themselves.

“This is the surest way to ensure wearing mask means wear masks appropriately. And not wearing masks underneath your chin while exposing your mouth and two nostrils to receive the covid-19 virus or to pass it on to another,” he added.
