This is why Annor Walker dropped Hearts defender Mohammed Alhassan from Black Galaxies provisional squad for 2023 CHAN

Black Galaxies coach Annor Walker has explained the reasons behind his decision to drop Hearts of Oak defender Mohammed Alhassan from his provision squad for the 2023 CHAN tournament.

Alhassan, 30, was a starter for the soft-spoken tactician during the qualification series and started both games against Nigeria in the final phase of the qualifiers.

Walker named a provisional 40-man squad for the tournament which will be hosted by Algeria from 13th January 2023 to 4th February 2023.

The former Great Olympics coach has named Gold Stars defender Michael Enu, Emmanuel Anaful of Medeama, Godwin Abusah, Kwadwo Addae, Solomon Adomako of Olympics, and Konadu Yiadom of Hearts of Oak in the central defensive area.

He has explained to the Ghanaian portal Ghana Sports Page why he left out the defender from his squad.

“If Mohammed Alhassan is not part of the squad it is my own decision. I don’t understand why people are talking about it. Almost five players have been excluded, but why will they talk about Mohammed Alhassan’s exclusion only? To be honest, Mohammed Alhassan has failed to have enough playing time of late,” he is quoted by the web portal.

He added: “Even Vincent Atinga’s name is missing from the squad but no one is asking about his exclusion. There’s no problem. I have invited 40 players. I am monitoring their performances. Some will be omitted and will be replaced by others.”
