Well-known Ghanaian football spiritualist Otabil, popularly known as Joe Moromo, collapsed and died from shock after Guinea equalized against Ghana in the U23 AFCON.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to Ghana Sports Online, the passionate Ghanaian football fan was urging on Ibrahim Tanko’s side to seal qualification to the semifinals of the tournament which is currently ongoing in Morocco.
Ghana took the lead through Romania-based striker Emmanuel Yeboah on the 33rd minute and were coasting to the last four of the tournament.
However, the moment of shock came for Otabil around the hour mark when Sweden-based Ibrahima Breze slammed the ball into Ghana’s net from a second ball of which was not attended to by the Ghana defenders.
Moromo, otherwise known as Otabil, collapsed on the floor with the people around rushing to his rescue. First aid attempts couldn’t do much to salvage the situation.
He was rushed to a hospital in Swedru for medical attention but he couldn’t survive the night as he was pronounced dead around midnight.
Many Ghanaian fans have been left disappointed and shocked by the exit of the Ghana team from the tournament.
