The UK-based organisation, Black Unity Bike Ride, has arrived in Ghana together with 18 top-class cyclists to help raise GHS130,000 to support the Vida Cycling Program.
The Black Unity Bike Ride, which was founded by Tokunbo Ajasa-Oluwa, is a UK charity initiative that began in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. BUBR aims to encourage more Black people to enjoy cycling and prioritise their health and well-being.
The cyclists are from the United Kingdom, the USA, and the Middle East and would compete to win laurels as the BUBR aims to reach its target of raising the funds to support the project.
The special ride tour, which commences on the 15th of April 2023, consists of 500km of cycling across four days and destinations include Cape Coast, Assin Manso, Takoradi, and Akosombo.
The Black Unity Bike Ride has three values; Unity, Empowerment, and Love, and has demonstrated these values by flying to the West African nation to help support the cause of the Vida Cycling Program which is an NGO for aspiring female cyclists based in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The VCP was founded by Vida Juliet Vivie as a grassroots program dedicated to making cycling opportunities accessible to young women.
Kuki, who is a member of the Gladiators Cycling Club, expressed the need to improve cycling in the West African nation.
