Kikpandewura suspended over alleged involvement in the murder of Mujipewura Abdul Rahman Bore

The Paramount Chief of Kikpande in the Kpembe Traditional Area in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region, Kanyiti I, has been suspended indefinitely from holding himself as chief of Kikpande.

The decision was taken in an emergency meeting today, 4th March at the Jakpa’s Palace in Damongo by some eighteen paramount chiefs and sub-chiefs.

The Mujipewura, Abdul-Rahman Bore, was attacked and killed at his palace on March 30, by unknown assailants – an incident which many suspect the suspended Kikpandewura has a hand in.

The suspension letter which was intercepted by JoyNews, titled, “Indefinite suspension of Kanyiti (I) ” does not bear the King of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bii-Tunuto Jawu Soale’s  (I) signature, but rather, two other chiefs who also sat in the meeting.

According to the suspension letter, the Kikpandewura as part of his suspension is prohibited from performing any functions that relate to the customs and traditions of the Gonja kingdom.

However, some residents have raised red flags in the form of question and concerns over what they describe as a hasty decision with no level playing ground for the suspended chief.

According to them, “why is it that Kikpandewura Kanyiti (I) was not invited by Yagbonwura and given a listening ear by the group on the issue but made it one sided?

“A decision such as that was supposed to come from the rightful body like the Gonja Traditional Council and not what we are hearing

“And why did Yagbonwura Bii-Tunuto Jawu Soale (I) who chaired and sat through the meeting decline signing the suspension letter? Why?”
