Former Ghana attacker Charles Taylor has sharply criticised Ghana U23 coach Ibrahim Tanko, claiming he doesn’t learn following Morocco’s triumph over the West Africans at the U23 AFCON.
Ghana’s U23 side, the Black Meteors, were dismantled by host Morocco in a 5-1 defeat, leaving Ghana with a slim chance of progress to the knockout stage of the competition.
Taylor, who was capped 16 times for Ghana from 1999 to 2004, has descended heavily on the soft-spoken coach.
“Ghanaian coaches just go after the certificates without learning anything. If you look at the kind of defence Ibrahim Tanko set up for the game, it clearly tells you they don’t learn. If you’re a good coach you would be able to build a formidable team within three weeks regardless of the unavailability of some of the players,” he told Accra-based Angel TV.
“The No. 7 shirted for instance was just terrible. Nothing showed that he was a professional player,” he added.
Ghana must beat Guinea if they are to qualify to the semi-finals of the competition.
