Dominion University To Partner With USA Organisations To Set Up Centre Of Excellence For Artificial Intelligence

Dominion University College, a private institution located in Accra, has unveiled plans to create a Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to equip young men and women with IT and business skills, and to help reduce youth and women unemployment in the country.

In collaboration with renowned US-based organizations, the centre will provide practical training in entrepreneurship to produce a future-ready workforce.

The centre, which will be situated within Dominion University’s modern East Legon campus, will not operate under the traditional mass educational system but instead will equip students with practical knowledge and expertise to enable them to start working immediately after completion.

In an interview with the media during Dominion University’s 6th graduation ceremony, Prof. Felix Nikoi Hammond, the Chairman of the University, revealed that the university was seeking international funding for the centre since the institution would not have the necessary funds to run it.

“We are setting up the centre of excellence for artificial intelligence within our premises by providing the spaces. And that there are some technologies that we can provide because these are high-profile organisations already, they have marketing penetration and products which are high and some of the products are governmental in nature. And so through that processes, we could generate funds,” he stated.

He added that the “Critically the yet-to-be-established centre which would be positioned in the premises of Dominion University College’s new ultramodern edifice at East Legon in Accra would be training our youths, women and girls and empower them in IT and business opportunities.”

The university’s management has been raising funds from its partner organizations in the United States, which will support human resources, technology, and equipment to run the centre effectively.

Prof. Hammond also mentioned that the university would focus on research and educational product development, with a focus on products that are marketable, to generate revenue for the centre.

Additionally, the centre will collaborate with the local community, including those on the streets, to achieve its objectives.
