Full-Scale Emergency Simulation Exercise Set to Test Response Capacity at Kotoka International Airport
A comprehensive emergency simulation exercise, named ‘Operation Ogboole 2023,’ is scheduled to take place at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 0800 to 1200 noon.
This exercise, designed to simulate a mass casualty evacuation following an airplane crash into the sea off the Osu landing beach, is being conducted in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces and Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
The main objectives of ‘Operation Ogboole 2023’ are to test the Draft Harmonized Standard Operating Procedures (HSOP) for Maritime incident response at Maritime Operations Centres and the Emergency Operating Procedures at Kotoka International Airport.
The exercise aims to enhance the response capacity of maritime stakeholders when dealing with maritime incidents, improve interoperability, and foster inter-agency collaboration among state institutions.
In an official notice to the general public, GACL has reassured that airport operations will experience minimal disruptions during the exercise.
The organization has also called for the cooperation of the general public to ensure the successful execution of the simulation exercise.
This full-scale emergency simulation serves as a critical training opportunity for stakeholders involved in responding to potential disasters, ensuring that they are well-prepared to handle real-life emergencies effectively. This will further contribute to strengthening the safety and security measures at Kotoka International Airport.
