South African singer-songwriter, Nomcebo Nothule Nkwanyana known in the entertainment space as Nomcebo Zikode has made claims to not being not adequately compensated for her contributions to the highly acclaimed ‘Jerusalema’ song by Master KG.
Zikode made this publicly known via a press release she shared on her instagram page on Sunday, 11th of July 2021. In the press release, she disclosed that her label , Open Mic Productions has refused to pay her a cent and what’s due for her contribution to the hit record ‘ Jerusalema’.
Zikode also disclosed that the success of her collaboration with Master KG on ‘Jerusalema’ has done nothing for her. On the contrary, her “efforts to marginalize” her contributions has subjected her to mockery.
Thank you to all the fans of #jerusalema you have made my dreams a reality, with attaining a global hit song. My voice and lyrics have been transcended globally, but I still await what is due to me. I have not been paid a cent by the label for #jerusalema despite the song’s global success. I have been ridiculed,with efforts to marginalize my contribution. The continued love and support from the fans of #jerusalema has been my strength and anchor during this difficult time. I, as a female artist, can’t stay silent on this anymore. The matter is now with my lawyers. Stay Safe, Love always Sincerely Nomcebo Zikode
Master KG has debunked accusations of breaching the contract with regards to the revenue split via a couple of tweets he deleted shortly after. He said that the agreement between them was 50/50 but Nomcebo wanted to take 70% for herself and leave 30% for him. In his words;
And again, Nomcebo can you tell these people that you are demanding a bigger percentage than mine on this song? The agreement of Jerusalema is 50/50 between me and Nomcebo but wants 70% and I must get 30%
