Wizkid Ignites Lagos’ Party Season With New EP ‘S2’
Just like he did with SoundMan, Vol. 1 in 2019, Lagos superstar Wizkid released this joyous EP in December 2023, just in time for the city’s renowned party season. This four-track follow-up embodies all the characteristics that have contributed to Wizkid’s worldwide success since 2020.
It incorporates midtempo music laced with his native Yoruba, hand-picked collaborations, and hints of the sun-dappled songs “Essence” and “Ginger.” The first song, “Ololufe,” featuring former mentor Wande Coal, is carried by the smooth shakers and basslines of amapiano; nonetheless, the best pairing for Wizzy is the intense back and forth with Zanku Records wildchild Zlatan (on “IDK”).
The song summons gospel and Afro-jazz with the same fervor that has propelled the Afrobeats artist to create a sound that has taken over party culture.
