2023 NSMQ: Akumfi Ameyaw SHS, 3 others secure national slots

Akumfi Ameyaw SHS, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel SHS, Atebubu SHS, and Kintampo SHS have secured a slot at the national stage of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz.

The four schools, after an impressive run during the regional qualifiers, will represent the Bono East region in the national championship.

In what many described as a revengeful contest, Akumfi Ameyaw Senior High Techical School beat their regional compatriot Nkoranza SHS with a 19-point margin.

One-time Bono-Ahafo zonal champions, Nkoranza SHS failed to yet again qualify to the national stage for two consecutive years.

They managed 39 points at the end of the contest

The two schools clashed out with Abease SHS, St. Francis Seminary and Kwame Danso SHS who appeared to be out of the race.

Akumfi Ameyaw SHS stole more bonuses from their contenders as they carefully answered their main questions in the first round to widen their margin, putting them in a comfortable lead.

The greenish-yellow shirted boys from the school would not relent on extending their pace from the clutches of their competitors when they scored all ten questions at the True/False round of the contest.

Teachers and students of the school which scored 58 points, the highest so far in the Regional Qualifiers, say their least stage in this year’s competition will be the grand-finale.

Qualified yet downhearted, that was the feeling after students of the Atebubu Senior High School secured their slot at the national stage.

After what appeared to be an easy win for the school, contestants of the school who were optimistic of an impressive performance could only garner 33 points against schools they described as their unmatched contenders –  Busunya SHS and Jema SHS who managed 8 and 15 points respectively.

They have however resolved to improve ahead of the national competition.

Kintampo SHS emerged victorious in the second contest for the day after they faced off with Prang SHS and Tuobodom SHS.

They secured 31 points while the two schools garnered 17 and 24 points respectively.

Students from the school say they are ready to melt their opposition at any level of the competition.

The last contest which featured Our Lady of Mt. Carmel SHS, Yeji SHS and Amanten SHS saw the only female school from the Bono East regional qualify as the fourth school to the nationals.

They include Kesse Basahyia SHS, Kwabre SHS, New Konkrompe SHS, Guakro Effah SHS, and Kajaji SHS.
