Structures on CSIR land demolished after Minister’s 48hr ultimatum

All the illegal structures that occupied the 200 acres of land belonging to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have been demolished.

The structures were demolished today, Wednesday, June 22.

This comes after the Greater Accra Regional Security Council gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the encroachers to relocate from the area.

The Chairman of the Accra REGSEC, Henry Quartey, on Monday, June 20, threatened to demolish all unlawfully erected lands should they fail to adhere to the order.

“REGSEC is hereby giving a 48hr notice from now to all those who are putting up such unauthorized structures within the fenced wall to pack their tools and materials from the land without fail.

“Any persons found loitering on the fenced 200-acre land after the deadline will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land,” the minister added.

For years, unscrupulous persons have sold nearly 800 acres of these lands. Recently, other developers also started encroaching on the remaining 200 acres, an issue the Institute has complained about vehemently and demanded action from the government.
