Angry African EP : Worlasi Chronicles Youth Struggles Amid Unfulfilled Promises In New EP
This album aims to shed light on the pressing issues faced by our youth and serves as an artistic medium to express the collective concerns of “Angry Africans.”
This is a musical EP that delves into the socio-economic challenges faced by the youth in our country, resulting in an increasingly arduous environment for survival. These challenges encompass a severe lack of job opportunities, a deficit in the healthcare sector with shortages of nurses and doctors, and a significant trend of emigration in pursuit of more promising prospects abroad. The exodus of the youth has seen rapid growth, underscoring the urgency of the issues at hand. Notably, a substantial 90 percent of the promises made by our leadership remain unfulfilled, leading to a collective sense of frustration. As a reflection of this collective sentiment, the album is aptly titled “Angry Africans.”
The album consists of the following songs:
“Decorated Monkey”: This song conveys the idea that despite our common humanity, some among us have had access to better opportunities, which positions them for leadership roles with higher educational standards. However, these leaders often become detached from the very people they serve, believing they deserve more. The song presents their perspective and the struggles they’ve faced as elites since childhood. It is presented in the form of a speech delivered during a gathering of these selected leaders.
“How Many Times”: This song serves as a commentary on the persistent problems that have plagued our society for decades without any tangible change. Each problem is succinctly stated, with the crowd responding with “How many times, how many times, charley,” utilizing call and response to engage the audience effectively.
“Sleeping Bear”: An interlude of short duration, this song metaphorically likens our national leader to a slumbering bear. It features a child’s plea, “Wake up, my old brown bear,” representing the call for our leaders to become more responsive and attentive.
“We No Go Gree”: This song incorporates a “call and response” element and addresses the promises made by leaders during election campaigns, with the crowd emphatically responding with “we will not agree.” This signifies the refusal to accept further deception and lies.
“Soul Eaters”: The song portrays the draining effect of trying to make ends meet in our country, wherein the struggles deprive individuals of the life they desire and deserve. It aptly refers to leaders as “soul eaters” who deplete hope and vitality.
“Balance”: This song humorously comments on the perennial issue of insufficient funds in one’s bank account. While light-hearted, it underscores the fundamental need for financial resources in our lives.
