Blitz Bazawule’s The Colour Purple first trailer released
The first trailer of The Colour Purple, an upcoming American musical coming-of-age period drama film directed by Ghanaian singer-song writer and filmmaker, Samuel Bazawule, professionally known as Blitz Bazawule has been released.
The film was adapted from a screenplay by Marcus Gadley, based on a stage musical of the same name, which in turn was based on a 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker.
It is the third feature film to be directed by the Ghanaian director following his work on The Burial of Kojo and Beyonce’s Black is King.
The Colour Purple is a story about the life-long struggles of an African American woman living in the south of America during the early 1900s.
It stars big names like, Taraji P. Henson, Halle Bailey, Fantasia, H.E.R, Aunjanue Ellis, Colman Domingo, and Ciara among others.
The film is produced by Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, Quincy Jones, and Oprah Winfrey.
It is set to be released on Christmas Day of this year.
