2022 Orange Friday Carnival launched in Cape Coast
The 2022 Orange Friday Carnival has been launched in Cape Coast.
The carnival was shelved for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Organizers of the event, Cape Coast-based Cape FM, say this year’s event will not be part of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye. It will be celebrated as part of the station’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
According to the General Manager of Cape FM, Francis Clemas Donkoh, the event will be used to educate the youth to abstain from all manner of social vices. He stated that the education would be done with the help of religious bodies in the metropolis.
“Looking around today, everybody wants money, especially the youth. Thus, they are poised to use whatever means possible to get money. Clearly, this will be counterproductive, and so we shall use the occasion to redirect their focus. Even though there is economic hardship, it is not an opportunity for people to be engaged in all manner of things for money,” he stated.
Not only will the event be used to educate the people, but also to promote tourism and culture for development and also generate revenue for the tourist sites in the region and the nation.
“This year, we are promoting tourism and culture for development. We know that with the people from the diaspora coming, they will patronize our goods here. We know a lot of people will come to the Orange Friday carnival, so security is assured. We have had meetings with the regional commander and his people,” he added.
The mid-morning show host of Cape 93.3 FM, Martha Gotah, intimated that the Orange Friday Carnival was not only meant to make merry but also to ensure social cohesion; offer brands and organisations the opportunity to market their products.
“The Orange Friday carnival isn’t here only for the thrilling moment but to equally create a social cohesion that offer brands, companies, organizations, traders among others, the opportunity to showcase and market their products to the thousands of people who will be there.”
She mentioned that the carnival is acclaimed as the biggest street carnival in Ghana and second in West Africa, a feat that the people of Cape Coast, the Central Region and the organizers of the carnival are proud of and cherish.
She further advised the people of the metropolis to promote, protect and preserve the Orange Friday Carnival for posterity.
The 2022 Orange Friday Carnival is slated for 2nd September, 2022.
