‘We can agree to disagree in a dignified manner’- Frank Annoh-Dompreh

The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has called for consensus-building in Parliament amidst simmering tensions between the Majority and Minority Caucuses in the House.

According to the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, a unified legislature that set aside its differences to prioritise the interest of the nation is a necessity.

In view of this, Mr Annoh-Dompreh revealed that practical steps are being taken with the support of some renowned citizens to ensure that unanimity is restored in Parliament.

“We are putting the past behind us with the support of Mr Speaker. This country must succeed. Let’s keep working on this with the Nation in mind,” he tweeted on Saturday.

The Whip further added, “We can agree to disagree in a dignified manner.”

In recent times, legislators have been at loggerheads over certain issues which is causing seeming division within the Housed tasked to lead the citizenry.

For instance, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has had cause to take strong exception to a stance taken by Speaker Alban Bagbin following the former’s dismissal of a motion to constitute a bipartisan Committee to probe into government’s Covid-19 expenditure

The Bekwai legislator sees it as problematic that Mr Bagbin continuously demonstrates what he believes is resistance to views other than his.

But the first Deputy sees this as demeaning to his role in the House and demanded the Speaker opens up to divergent views.

There is also the issue of an ongoing rift between the Majority and Minority in the House over the controversial E-Levy which has sparked fisticuffs in Parliament.

These incidents form the basis for Frank Annoh-Dompreh’s confidence in the ability of consensus building to successfully accelerate business in Parliament.
